ICAR–Indian Institute of Rice Research (ICAR-IIRR) conducted a comprehensive awareness campaign under the “Khet Bachao Abhiyan” at Kankal village, Pudur Mandal, Vikarabad district, on 22 June 2026. During the campaign, farmers were sensitized to the importance of the balanced application of fertilizers, emphasizing the role of macro- and micronutrients in improving soil fertility, crop productivity, and long-term sustainability. Scientists explained the adverse effects of indiscriminate fertilizer use and guided farmers on adopting need-based and soil-test-based fertilizer application practices. A practical, hands-on demonstration of the Rapid Soil Testing Kit was also organized as part of the programme. Farmers were trained on how to use the kit to assess soil health parameters and nutrient status directly in the field. This interactive session aimed to empower farmers with the skills required for real-time decision-making regarding fertilizer application, thereby reducing input costs and improving crop outcomes.
The programme was attended by Sri Manchanpally Veeresh, Sarpanch, Vice Sarpanch Pallekurva Mallesh, Sri Rajkumar, AEO. The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from a total of 67 farmers, including 47 male farmers and 20 women farmers. The campaign was successfully conducted by a team of scientists from ICAR-IIRR, comprising Dr. Bandeppa, Dr. Jagriti Rohit, Dr. Raghavendra and Dr. Jasudasu. The team provided technical expertise, addressed farmers’ queries, and encouraged interactive discussions to ensure better understanding and adoption of the recommended practices.

During the campaign, FPO's were sensitized to the importance of the balanced application of fertilizers, emphasizing the role of macro- and micronutrients in improving soil fertility, crop productivity, and long-term sustainability. Scientists explained the adverse effects of indiscriminate fertilizer use and guided farmers on adopting need-based and soil-test-based fertilizer application practices.A hands-on session on the Rapid Soil Testing Kit, along with demonstrations of the RAISE and NAPSRI applications, was held during the programme.This programme was coodinated by Dr. Brajendra, Dr. B. Sailaja, Dr. Papa Rao and Dr. Jagriti.
