Identification of transgressive variants for high zinc

Variety identified: R-RHZ-LI-23 (IET 25477) - Zinco Rice- MS developed by IGKV and identified by VIC 2018 for West Bengal, Chattisgarh and Odisha. 

Evaluation of yield and grain protein content among rice genotype at IGKV (Chhattisgarh): A set of 15 rice genotypes containing 4 high yielding and gall midge resistant lines, two yield check, two high yielding germplasm of IGKV, six high grain protein content lines with one check for GPC were analyzed at four treatments of  fertilizer dose (N:P:K) at the IGKV farm. Over all the higher grain yield was recorded in treatment number 3 i.e. @120kg N/ha across all rice genotypes. Out of 15 rice genotypes, CGR-77 showed highest GPC (11.32) in white/polished grain among all four treatments of NPK in comparison to high grain protein check IET -24780. 

Screening of rice germplasm for identification of entries with high Zinc (≥ 26 µg/gm): A set of 192 rice germplasm were raised at farm of IGKV Raipur and screened for grain micronutrient level (Zn & Fe) in milled (polished) grains for two years i.e. 2016 – 2017. Among 192 germplasm lines analyzed, the variation observed for grain Zn content in the year 2017 ranged from 13.3 (GP145-45) to 39.7 (LALOO14) µg/gm whereas the variation observed for grain Fe content in the year 2017 ranged from 3.4 (VISHNU BHOG) to 22.0 {BANGLA GURMATIA (1756)} µg/gm. Based on the data obtained over the period of two years (2016 and 2017) total 9 rice landraces showing consistently higher grain zinc levels i.e. ≥ 26 µg/gm in polished grains were identified.

Molecular markers for zinc content: An indel marker targeting OsZIP10 gene was identified and was tested in a cross combination MTU1010/IR94033 and validated on a panel of rice germplasm.

Identification of markers associated with GPC trait: A panel of 192 rice germplasm was screened to determine the level of grain protein (GP) content in milled rice grains and to study the marker trait associations by using SSR markers. Protein content ranged from 4.82% to 11.11% for genotype GP145-45 and BAM766 (RCPL1-3C) respectively with an overall mean value of 7.04%. In total, 7 genotypes namely Kapoorsar - 9.48%, Lalmati - 10.15%, BAM698 (IC469345) - 9.56%, Nagina22 - 9.21%, BAM766 (RCPL1-3C) - 11.11%, Nipponbare - 9.17% and R 2270 - 9.47% were identified as high grain protein rice germplasm containing GP more than 9% among all germplasm lines analyzed. Association analysis was performed for the detection of relationship between the traits under study and the marker locus towards the identification of genetic counterparts of the traits. Total six markers were identified as highly significantly associated with the GP content of rice at p value < 0.01. Six significantly associated SSR markers with grain protein content were identified with P < 0.01viz. , RM204 (R2%: 20.02), RM118 (R2%: 5.22), RM125 (R2%: 18.43), RM230 (R2%: 8.47), RM105 (R2%: 8.76), and RM287 (R2%: 19.06).
